Anastasia Vronski is a young Russian musician interested in different branches of experimental music.
For this piece, "The Drowner", Anastasia used some techniques from music concrète:
dripping water from the tap, closing doors and other noises from Her, very noisy, appartment.
There´s also a reference to a movie that Anastasia saw recently which made a big impression on Her:
"Treaty Of Venom And Eternity" by Jean-Isidore Isou (1951).
In the words of Isidore Isou:
"When music eliminated melody as with Schönberg and the atonalists... it reached out toward Letterism."
This movie got the artist into the whole Lettrist movement, attracted by the way they used repetition, but there´s a rythmic approach, first with claustrophibic drippings of water and repetitive sounds, with surprising percussion and a pleasent melody to call upon a progressive and meditative hypnosis, invocation, with mantric vocalizations, to the depths of asphyxia at the first part of this piece. Then moves on to a darker and dronier sound, breathing slowly, as the enigmatic elements melt together with an introspective rythm of fade away sounds and soft percussive elements, flooding in thoughts.
The whole piece was created with free software for sequencing and it was recorded with a mini-disc and a Fostex 8-tracks.
